wikEd in action]]
I am developing
wikEd, an editing page extension for Mozilla browsers that adds enhanced text processing functions to Wikipedia edit pages.
wikEd is a complete
rich-text editor and comes with with many MediaWiki features:
* Pasting formatted text, e.g. from MS-Word (including tables)
* Converting the formatted text to wikicode
* Wikicode syntax highlighting
* Regular expression search and replace
* Find-as-you-type
* Server-independent
Show preview and
Show changes* Fullscreen editing mode
* Single-click fixing of common mistakes
* History for summary, search, and replace fields
Fore an extensive feature list and more details check the
wikEd project page. The JavaScript code can be found under
User:Cacycle/wikEd.js.
JavaScript diff
For the wikEd software above I have written a JavaScript
diff algorithm that has been optimized for comparison of Wikipedia source texts. The output highlights additions (dark green) and deletions (dark red) in the new text. Additionally, moved text blocks and their original positions are highlighted and color-coded. A more detailed description can be found under
User:Cacycle/diff and the JavaScript code can be found under
User:Cacycle/diff.js. The code is browser-independent and is extensively commented and the used CSS and HTML elements are fully customizable.

Chemical formulas at the Wikimedia Commons
thumb|150px|Chemical structure of ethylene glycol:
See also: Wikipedia:WikiProject Chemistry/Structure drawingI am uploading all new images of chemical structures to the
Wikimedia Commons. This way it is possible to use the structures in all different Wikipedia projects. I upload high resolution, black/white PNG images. These are of surprisingly small file size (the ethylene glycol image to the right has a size of only 3,198 byte at a resolution of 1372 x 469 pixels). Because of the high resolution they can be rescaled dynamically to any size on Wikipedia. Additionally, they can be used for printing and projection without pixel artifacts.
Linking is exactly the same as if the images were upladed to en.wikipedia:

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Chemical_structures is a Wikimedia Commons category for all chemical structures there.
How to draw and upload a chemical structure
This is the procedure I currently use for my images:
: ChemDraw
molecule editor settings:
:* Line width: 0.107 cm
:* Bond length: 2.566 cm
:* Font: Arial 45 pt
:* Save as: TIFF black/white bitmap
: Image processing (Photoshop or Irfan view):
:* Add canvas of 75 pixels to all four sides (Photoshop: Image:Canvas Size, relative, 150 pixels width, 150 pixels height)
:* Save as a PNG black/white bitmap
: Wikimedia Commons:
:* Upload under http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:Upload (bookmark address)
:* Paste the summary template from below
:* Add the substance's article link to en.wikipedia, the user name, and the date
: Linking:
:* As if it were uploaded to en.wikipedia
:* Add the horizontal image size "|200px|" (no frame) or "|thumb|200px|" (frame) to the image link:
